Renowned documentary photographer Amy Martin presenting her work from around the globe to our 8th graders as past of the 8th Grade Identity through Photography Project! This project is a springtime tradition at WEMS and is generously sponsored by the Williams Alliance for the Arts. Student photography will be on display at WAFTA's gallery throughout the month of April!
Happy 2020 Falcon Families! WEMS would like to start the new year off by sharing some good news: For the first time, our school has received results-based funding! Our students performed in the top 27% of all like-demographic Arizona schools on standardized tests. As a result, we'll receive a little extra money this year. While the money certainly is nice, we are most happy about what it represents--student achievement, staff excellence, and family support. Let's keep up the great work and have an amazing second semester!
SCHOLARSHIP INFO:
1) Coconino First Scholarship: This scholarship is offered by NAU and is exclusively for students from Coconino County who are incoming freshmen. It is worth $2,000 and will be awarded at the rate of $1,000 a year for the first 2 years. What is great is that all a student has to do is be accepted to NAU and they will automatically receive this.
2) Arizona Teacher’s Academy. This is through NAU, U of A, and ASU. Graduates of the Arizona Teachers Academy who agree to teach in Arizona will have their tuition and fees waived in exchange for a commitment to teach in an Arizona public school. The requirement is that they commit to teach in an Arizona school for the same amount of years that they get the tuition waived. Information for this is on the Governor’s website at: https://education.azgovernor.gov/edu/arizona-teachers-academy
Congratulations to Katelyn and Thomas for being selected Middle School January Students of the Month!

The 12 Pounds of Christmas tradition continues for WEMS staff with potluck lunches every day during December. Today, the middle school staff elevated the tradition to new levels with their "A Christmas Story" movie-themed spread. Decorations, red cabbage, and the movie playing in the background. Great job and thanks middle school team!
